Bookstore Vending Machines?

    Hey NACAS Community,

Does anyone currently have a vending machine that is used to sell bookstore-related supplies (e.g. pens, paper, scantrons, jump drives, headphones etc.)? I have seen these around campuses, but can not find a viable supplier. Any help would be appreciated.

At Muskegon Community College, some of our vending machines have Scantrons.  We only have available in the machines our most popular Scantron.  We give the information to our vending machine vendor, who then purchases the Scantrons and they put them in the machines.  It has been working out great for students.

We have one at Nevada State.  If anyone wants it, we can put it up on Public Auction.  Still works.  Just haven't used since we outsourced our bookstore.

Hi Ryan - I'm interested in this as well, particularly the notion of selling Scantrons from a machine/machines.  If you get an answer that provides vendor name(s), please share with me at  Thanks.

    Hi Ryan,

I have a contact that works with the folks that make those retail vending machines that you see at the airport. If you haven't seen them, they have a full glass front, and are typically are loaded with phone charges, laptop adapters, headphones, etc. I reached out to my contact who said she would be happy to field a call. Maybe they'd be interested in co-mingling some of the grab & go items that you listed (pens, paper, scantrons, jump drives) alongside some higher end merchandise. Let me know if you're interested, and I would be happy to forward you her info.

    Hi Ryan,

Rather than purchase a unit, we partnered with our Campus vending company. They purchased items from the Bookstore and put those items in certain vending units. Library was a good spot. Usually take up one row in that unit. Headphones, pens, pencils and erasers all sold well. Nothing that was going to provide significant revenue or new revenue but good service to our students nonetheless.

We have a few around campus.  We've bought them direct from, but there are several places that sell them direct the local areas.  My snack vending contractor has also been willing to sell me machines.  One option is to ask your snack vending company to add bookstore-related items in their machines.

    Hi Ryan,

We have one in our Library.  We partnered with both our Snack vendor and Bookstore vendor to provide this service to our students. Our snack vendor, provided the vending machine (we lease it from them at a minimal cost), the Bookstore staff stocks and replenishes the products in the machine from stock they already have in their store.  Products include items such as pens, pencils, highlighters, flash drives and exam books.  It is not a huge revenue generator; however, it is a service that our students appreciate.
Let me know if you want more info.
