Dining Contracts and COVID-19

    Greetings,

I hope that everyone is well.
At UMW, courses are being taught remotely through the end of the semester. With the exception of a few, residential students have moved off campus for the remainder of the term. The campus is open, with service operations modified to continue to meet students' needs and those required to support Virginia's response to COVID-19.
Are there schools in this position that have begun the process of assessing dining contracts and associated costs for the remainder of the term?  How are costs to institutions being minimized?

    Take good care.

    Greetings,
I am also interested in hearing how others are handling this. We are a commuter campus only and are in a situation where we subsidize our dining operation. We completely shut down all dining operations last week as we have no residential students and only a limited number of staff on campus. We are meeting this week with our dining operator to discuss how this will impact financials and also to find out what is being done on their end to minimize our expenses. We do not expect to be able to re-open until summer term and that is typically a pretty slow period anyway and expect it to be slower than usual until things ramp back up. Any thoughts on what is being done to minimize expenses is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Jessica

    Hi Folks,

We are also wondering how colleges are handling contracts with food service providers as we are going to online education only.  Are schools paying a prorated amount for services not used, paying full amounts of contracts, or other options?

    Thanks in advance - Zane
