Clearly defined Food truck policy on campus

    Happy Monday NACAS.

I'd like some feedback on your  "University" policy on having food trucks on campus for events when you have a contracted dining provider.

            Here are the issues:

    ·         The university does not have a specific policy for food trucks on campus.

    ·         A department wants to have a food truck or trucks, on campus for an event.

    ·         Risk management feels the contracted provider is responsible for vetting and obtaining all food truck requests.

    ·         The provider does not have food trucks available on campus.

    ·         The dining provider has the right of first refusal on all catered events.

    ·         The contracted provider would either need to contract the food truck separately and pass on all charges for administrative fees to the department or exercise their right of first refusal, leaving it all up to the department.

    The question:

    * Should the contracted provider be responsible for obtaining, and vetting all food trucks that departments request OR should vetting the truck be the responsibility of the party requesting the truck for an event, AFTER the contracted company has exercised its right of first refusal?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hey Bob!

NACAS holds a few resources around food trucks that I believe you'll find useful. Previously, we held a Virtual Roundable on the best practices of hosting food trucks on campus, which you can review here. Additionally, the Resource Library holds a few templates for agreements with food truck operators, which you can find by using the Marketplace Resource Library and searching off "food truck" as your keywords. Hopefully that gives you a great place to start!
