Computer Borrowing

Looking for anyone who may be managing a computer/electronic lending program. Do you self-manage or is it outsourced? We are finding more and more requests from students to have the option of borrowing a laptop or similar device to take home to complete assignments.

    Thank you,
    Jessica

Hi Jessica - we just re-started a laptop loan program in our Tech Center.  It's actually a pretty nice setup with laptop kiosks that are in a few locations around campus.  Students can check out at one kiosk and return at another, there is a time limit for use, charging is done in the kiosk, and there is billing associated with the process should the laptop not get returned.
Info about the program can be found here - https://its.temple.edu/laptop-share
I'll connect with my ITS folks and get a bit more info and a direct contact, but wanted you and the group to know we have the program in play.

    Thanks

    Jason

I just got a note from my ITS contact with the following info...

The Laptop Kiosks we're using are from Laptops Anytime (www.laptopsanytime.com). They sell the laptop kiosks, and also laptop charger kiosks that can be loaned out. They can also customize the cabinets for iPads, iPhone, and other devices.

    The contacts are:

Jonathan Ruttenberg, jonathan@laptopsanytime.com, takes care of the sales and business side.

Matt Buscher, matt@laptopsanytime.com, President &CEO – knows the hardware and most of the software

I do like the service, much more than I thought I would. They have been responsive to questions and calls, and have a genuine interest in making sure we succeed. Our system is connected through the library's ILS system to take care of the loans and fines for laptops returned late. If there is a problem with a laptop, users can report the issue, and we can block the laptop to give us time to investigate the problem.

I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has about them.
