Exempted on-campus students & continuing the meal plan

    Hi All,

I hope you are doing well and staying healthy!  There was a recent great post and responses about how folks are supporting students who have been allowed to stay on campus.  At UMass Boston, we also have a small population staying in the Residence Hall and are serving boxed meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It is working well so far and the students are very grateful for the options being provided.

The question I have is:  for those of you who are continuing some type of dining service for those remaining on campus, are you continuing to charge for the meal plan for these students, even if you are providing a pro-rated meal plan refund for those students who have moved out of on-campus housing?

Thank you, in advance, for your responses!

    And, take good care,
    Diane

We are continuing to serve the students remaining on campus. We are not reducing the cost of their meal plan for the semester. Those that have moved home are getting a refund. It would not be the standard price per day. we have calculated fixed costs (debt service, utilities as examples) into the conversation.

    Hi,

We have Sodexo at our school.

I'm interested in hearing from schools with Sodexo as dining partner.

    1. How are you handling the prorated refunds during this pandemic?
    2. Does your contract specify the process used to handle a national emergency?

    Thank you,

Diane – At Xavier , we have about 30 students remaining in housing and are providing them meal service, albeit in a very reduced manner than we/they are accustomed to.  With that in mind, despite having them continue to use their meal plan, we are considering providing them with a refund as well, perhaps as much as 50% of their remaining balance.  This is due to the fact that while yes they are still needing to be fed, we realize and appreciate that this is not the full service food program that they signed up for.  Hope that helps.

    Best Regards,

    Bill
